New Chickens & Turkeys for 2021!
On April 7th, we got 85 new layer chicks, as well as 4 turkeys! The white chicks are white leghorns, the brown chicks are golden sex links, and the black poults (baby turkey) are black.
The hatchery was sold out of meat chickens until the end of May, so I decided to try a few turkeys to see how they would do. While they take about twice as long to mature, they average about 15 lbs at sixteen weeks, which is about four times as much meat than a chicken.
Spring is always a fun time, and the quiet cheeping of chicks is always a welcome sound, especially since it's only a once-a-year occurrence!
